Chapter: 402
Beth lifted her head and regarded her with an indifferent gaze.
“Here comes Kaitlin," Beth muttered.
Kaitlin nodded and stood behind Alan, placing a comforting hand on his shoulder.
“I heard you were unwell and came right over. Thankfully, you are alright," she explained to Beth.
Beth averted her gaze, clearly unaffected by Kaitlin's presence.
"You both should leave. I have nothing to say," Beth said bluntly.
"Just look at the state of the Hewitt family. Sooner or later, I'll die of anger."
Alan's face darkened slightly, and so did Kaitlin's.
Neither of them chose to respond to Beth's harsh words.
Alan rose from his seat, not wanting to endure further scolding from Beth.
"Let's go, Kaitlin," he said.
Kaitlin's gaze shifted between Alan and Beth. Unsure of what to say, she quietly followed him out of the ward.
Once the door was closed, Kaitlin couldn't contain her curiosity.
“What happened before I got here? Did Beth give you a hard time?" she asked, her brow furrowed.
She was haunted by memories of the previous confrontation and was worried that something like that had happened again.
Alan shook his head. "Grandma didn't say much."
“Nothing? But then why..." Kaitlin's voice faded into silence.
She was puzzled by Beth's hospitalization at this particular time.
Had she misunderstood the situation? Was Beth in the hospital because her health deteriorated due to anger?
While Kaitlin pondered, Alan exhaled softly and took the lead in addressing the issue.
"Kaitlin, this time, Miguel is looking to cause trouble by bringing up the past," he explained. “He avoided prison back then due to lack of evidence. So, I orchestrated an accident to incapacitate him."
Sighing, he added, "I didn't let him die in that accident because I was too forgiving."
"Alan, are you okay?" Kaitlin asked, her brow furrowed.
Losing both parents in a car accident would leave an indelible mark on anyone.
