Chapter: 1006
The night air was still chilly, stirring his clothing and making his silk pajamas shimmer in the pale moonlight.
She chose not to interrupt him, sitting quietly some distance away.
Perhaps they both needed this moment to reflect.
Time passed slowly. As the cold seeped in, Bethany rubbed her arms for warmth.
Then she heard Jonathan's cold voice from ahead. “You can go back now." He didn't even bother to turn around.
Bethany paused.
“I'll sit a bit Longer, then head back."
How could he know she was here without once glancing her way?
Bethany pressed her lips together and remained seated on the cold marble.
As darkness deepened, the temperature dropped, chilling the marble even more.
Normally, Jonathan would have stood and drawn her back, fussing over her.
But now, he remained still.
A minute later, Jonathan stood.
Just as Bethany thought he would come to fetch her, he walked past without a glance.
Bethany hadn't anticipated this turn of events, nor had she expected Jonathan to use the video to test her deliberately.
His disappointment was palpable.
But what he had uncovered was the truth. She had no grounds for dispute.
Bethany followed him into the hospital, though they did not walk together.
As they neared the ward, Jonathan pushed the door open and entered without a backward glance to see if she was behind him.
Stunned, Bethany stood there; then her phone rang.
She glanced at her phone and saw Aimee's name.
“Bethany, Jayson's in the hospital!"
Bethany hesitated before responding, “What happened to Jayson?"
“After you and Jonathan left, he shut himself away and refused to eat anything. If I hadn't arrived today, he might have starved!"
