Chapter: 1007
Aimee's sigh was heavy. "I know I shouldn't have called, but can you talk to him? His parents are distraught."

Aimee was really at her wit's end.

Bethany frowned, took a deep breath, and said, “Hand him your phone."

As soon as she stopped speaking, Jayson's voice came from the other end of the phone.

“I told you not to call her! She's got enough on her plate. If I become another burden, she'll resent me! Dad, Mom, please stay out of it."

“Jayson, it's Bethany. She wants to speak with you..."

“Hang up! I mean it, hang up now or I'll yank out this IV and leave!"

A moment later, Aimee spoke again. “Bethany, I'm at a loss with Jayson!"

Bethany exhaled slowly, "Tell him I could never resent him and to stop worrying so much."

"Will do. Get back to your tasks. We'll catch up when you return."

"Okay."

After ending the call, Bethany pocketed her phone and turned to leave.

As she did, she noticed the ward door seemed to move.

Approaching, she found no one there.

Inside, Jonathan was seated at his desk, head bowed, poring over a contract.

Bethany entered the ward and headed straight to the bathroom to change.

She felt unusually self-conscious. She wanted to say something to Jonathan, but nothing seemed right.

Emerging from the bathroom, she found Jonathan still immersed in his work.

Bethany settled on the sofa, quietly observing Jonathan as she often did.

A series of WhatsApp notifications interrupted her thoughts.

It was a message from Jayson.

"I'm sorry, Bethany. I'm just not feeling well and have no appetite. It has nothing to do with you! I didn't expect my parents to press Aimee to call you. I'm sorry for the disturbance. Please, don't be upset."

Bethany could sense Jayson's discomfort in his message.

Yet, she wasn't upset.
