Chapter: 101
Jonathan gave a resigned smile. "Of course, but... I still need to go."
Nikolas had criticized him for lacking compassion. Reflecting on this, Jonathan felt it was improper not to visit.
Jonathan had always maintained a professional distance from women to avoid any misunderstandings.
“Just go. Don't worry about me. I'll be fine after some rest!"
Relieved, Bethany managed to smile for the rest of the drive.
Jonathan watched her through the rearview mirror.
He suspected that Bethany wasn't as tired as she claimed.
After dropping Bethany off at East Shade Bay, Jonathan drove to the hospital.
Upon entering the ward, he found Nikolas assisting Maddie.
As soon as she saw Jonathan, Maddie quickly pushed Nikolas aside.
“Jonathan, you're here!"
"Yes." Jonathan placed the fruits and tonics he had bought on the table.
Seeing this, Nikolas scowled and said, "I'll leave you two alone and go fetch her medication."
As Nikolas exited, Maddie propped herself up weakly and managed a courteous smile. “I'm sorry, Jonathan, but I might need a few days to work on those contracts. Don't worry, I'll be back at work soon. Nikolas said he'd bring my Laptop here!"
Jonathan admired Maddie's commitment, but as CEO, he knew he had to curb her tendency to overwork.
“Your recovery comes first. The legal department has others too. I'll have Brody and Bethany handle the contracts."
"No!" Maddie's voice spiked at the mention of Bethany's name, and she quickly realized her outburst. “I'm sorry. I just prefer handling my tasks myself. It's nothing personal. Besides, I don't have much else to do here, and working might actually help pass the time."
"Your health is what matters most."
“It's fine! Oh, Jonathan, because of my surgery, I can't meet your mother this week. She called earlier, found out about my surgery, and now she's planning to come back."
Jonathan was surprised to hear his mother was returning.
He frowned. "She isn't really fit for long flights."
"I tried telling her that, but she insists on coming to look after me, worried that I won't have enough care after the surgery."
"I'll arrange for additional nursing care. She doesn't need to strain herself by coming."
"Yeah, that's exactly what I told her."
