Chapter: 1018
Seeing Aimee's weary and disheartened expression, Henson felt his heart ache.
Nikolas, troubled and unsure of what to say, had been planning all the way how to explain about the child and tell Aimee the truth. But when they finally faced each other, she hadn't even asked about the child!
If he had anticipated this, he wouldn't have spent the night at the hospital.
"I didn't expect her to come looking for me..."
He thought Aimee would be furious or simply return to her own home for the night. He hadn't anticipated her becoming so anxious that she'd spend the night searching for him.
"Think this over on your own. And don't stand in the way. Nikolas, it's over between you two."
Henson helped Aimee into the car and then returned to the driver's seat.
Nikolas watched the car drive away until it vanished from sight, feeling a profound emptiness and chill envelop his heart.
He suddenly started running, attempting to catch the car, but it was futile.
In his pocket, his phone continued to ring.
Frustrated, Nikolas pulled out his phone and answered it.
"Siena, are you satisfied now? Aimee just broke up with me!"
"Come to the hospital, Nikolas.. Our daughter.. Our daughter is critical!" Siena couldn't focus on Nikolas' complaints; she sobbed uncontrollably. “After you left, she cried and then she just collapsed. The doctors are saying she might not make it!"
Nikolas clenched his fists and gritted his teeth.
“That's not my problem! You chose to have her. Don't use her to manipulate me!"
"No, it's true. She's really dying! Nikolas, please, come and see her one last time, will you? I'm begging you."
The veins on Nikolas’ hand bulged, a testament to his rising anger.
Nikolas had never imagined his life would spiral like this!
"I'm not coming. Just let it go."
As Nikolas ended the call, the image of his little girl flashed in his mind.
She was frail, always lying there unresponsive, curled up in a corner of the hospital bed.
Just last night, he had sat beside her, watching over her.
On the other side of the phone, Siena continued to cry, but Nikolas was in such pain that he could barely stand. It felt as though his heart was being torn out and stabbed repeatedly. Ironically, he felt utterly powerless.
After Henson had driven away a little, Aimee, who had been sobbing quietly, finally allowed herself to cry freely.
