Chapter: 1020
When he looked up again, he saw that Bethany had already gone far with Nola in her arms. Jonathan quickly caught up with them.
Bethany was actually wary of amusement rides that would spin around because they made her feel dizzy. But she didn't want to refuse her daughter's request.
They got on the merry-go-round together, and after less than three laps, Bethany felt as if she could no longer find her balance. She staggered back and forth, struggling to stay upright.
Instinctively, she reached out for something to hold onto, but the poles on the ride were moving up and down as well. Just as Bethany thought she might fall, she felt a pair of strong hands firmly grasp her waist from behind.
Then Jonathan's deep voice came through. "Stop! Let her get off."
As the carousel slowed to a stop, Bethany felt a gentle but firm grip on her arm.
Jonathan helped her down, his expression cold and distant. He pointed to a nearby bench and said curtly, “Sit there. I'll be the one to accompany them."
“Oh, okay," she mumbled, nodding and taking a seat.
After a while, she noticed a drink stand nearby and realized she was thirsty. She stood, stretched her arms, and ambled over to buy a bottle of mineral water. By the time she got back, she found someone else occupying the bench.
Luckily, Jonathan had acted swiftly earlier, coming to her aid before Bethany could hurt herself dismounting the carousel. Now, it didn't matter much whether she sat or stood.
With a shrug, Bethany twisted the cap off her water bottle and took a refreshing sip. Nearby, she overheard two girls chattering animatedly about Jonathan.
"I haven't seen such a handsome guy in ages. And he's so sweet, playing with his little siblings on the carousel," one of them gushed excitedly.
"Quick! Take a picture of him while he's not looking," the other urged. "I want to post it as a story."
"That's crazy! Why not ask for his contact info instead?" the first girl countered.
"You do it!"
“No, you're prettier! You have a better chance of getting his number!"
Bethany hadn't meant to eavesdrop, but the girls weren't exactly whispering; their conversation was clear as a bell from where she stood.
When the carousel finally stopped, the first person to approach Jonathan wasn't the two gossiping girls, but a strikingly dressed foreigner.
Bethany couldn't hear their exchange, but she saw Jonathan's expression turn cold. Soon, the girl walked away, disappointment etched on her face.
She noticed that Jonathan was scanning the area for her, so she was about to raise her hand to wave at him.
Just then, the two girls beside her grew even more excited.
“Ahhh! Oh, my God! “Ahhh! He's looking over here. Is he looking at you? Or me?" one of them squealed.
"Shit! Quick, hold my stuff! I'm going to ask for his number," the other replied, handing over her bag.
"OMG, he's walking towards you!" the first girl gushed in disbelief, her voice tinged with jealousy.
