Chapter: 1029
Maddie fell silent.
Bethany closed her eyes, trying to regain her composure, then spoke in a hoarse voice. “When you thought you could exploit power and manipulate lives, you never imagined it would lead to this, right? I won't waste my breath telling you about the consequences you will face. My mother was bedridden for years. But you know what? She never met Jonathan's mother even once. You two were the ones who killed her!"
Bethany couldn't fathom the desperation and helplessness her mother must have felt back then.
Except for her, Marie had no family, but they hadn't even gotten the chance to see each other one last time.
“I don't believe you. You're lying. You're trying to trick me,"
Maddie said, shaking her head. She couldn't accept it at all.
She had thought that Jonathan would go to any Lengths to protect his mother, and in doing so, he would also shield her and cover up the entire matter.
In that scenario, even if she couldn't get Jonathan, at least she would be safe.
"That's fine. You'll find out if it's true or not in court," Bethany said, turning to leave.
But Maddie stopped her. “Bethany, do you really love Jonathan?"
Bethany paused, pursing her lips in silence.
"If he knew you have a mental disorder and are incapable of loving anyone, would he be in love with you in the first place?"
Bethany raised an eyebrow. “Even if he's not in love with me, he won't be in love with you."
“He will! He just fell for the wrong person. Bethany, you can never understand what Jonathan wants. He needs someone who can trust him and love him wholeheartedly. But you can never do that. I'm the only one who truly understands him!"
Bethany suddenly remembered Jonathan's eyes that day.
With his emotions laid bare, he had asked her if she had ever thought of him, even a little.
At the time, Bethany thought he wanted her to forgive his mother for his sake and not embarrass him. But now, she realized he was probably questioning the trust he never received.
Well, to that, Bethany had no response.
The fact of the matter was, she really didn't trust Jonathan. From the beginning to the end, she never felt comfortable letting him handle this matter because she feared he would be unfair and cover up for his mother.
She had no argument against it.
After returning home, Aimee locked herself in her bedroom and refused to come out, much to the worry of Henson and Victoria.
However, they didn't dare to say anything more. They could only pace anxiously outside her door.
Suddenly, the bedroom door swung open.
Immediately rising from the chair, Victoria began, “Aimee, are you..."
