Chapter: 1043
“Aimee, if it's too hard to let go of Nikolas, maybe you should talk to him."
Bethany thought, no matter what, her situation couldn't be as irreparable as her own with Jonathan.
"Don't mention it. We can't be together anymore." Aimee started the engine, took a deep breath, and said slowly, "I need to tell you something. Please, don't tell Jayson. That's also why I didn't bring him along today."
Bethany looked puzzled.
"Nikolas has a daughter, with his ex-girlfriend."
Bethany was taken aback. “Shocking, isn't it? How can I be with Nikolas now? Marry him and become a stepmother? I'm not that generous."
Bethany hadn't anticipated this revelation and struggled to process bis, "Did he tell you himself? He never mentioned it when he was courting you. Even Jonathan didn't tell me Nikolas had a child."
“Nikolas only recently found out. His ex-girlfriend had kept it from him."
As Aimee explained, her detachment made it seem as if these events were not her own.
She had wept, but continuous crying seemed futile and only highlighted her indecisiveness.
"So that's what happened. I was wondering why you two suddenly split when you were nearly engaged."
“It's more than that." At a red light, Aimee turned and grasped Bethany's hand. “Bethany, there's something else I need to do. Can you stay with me? Please, tell no one.”
Looking into Aimee's eyes, Bethany wondered.
“Are you pregnant?"
Bethany fell silent. "How do you always guess everything?"
With eyes wide open, Bethany looked at her friend and then at her abdomen, speechless.
"I've scheduled the procedure for three days from now, at nine in the morning. Will you be there with me?" After careful consideration, Aimee felt Bethany was the only one she could rely on.
Just let this child be as though they had never been.
She refused to dedicate her life to Nikolas. She wasn't as impulsive in love as Siena, nor did she possess the unwavering devotion Jonathan had for Bethany. She had her own life to lead.
Being a single mother would be unfair to both herself and the child.
"Of course, I can't let you face this alone!" Bethany responded helplessly. “Does anyone else know? Your parents?"
"I haven't dared tell them. They were already upset about my breakup with Nikolas. I fear they might approach the Bennett family if they find out. And if Nikolas learns of my pregnancy, he certainly won't let me go through with the abortion."
What struck Bethany about Aimee was her clarity.
She knew precisely what she wanted and didn't want, dissecting everything with thorough analysis.
