Chapter: 1055
Nola scowled, clinging tightly to Jonathan's neck. "Dad, let's get out of here! I can't stand this place!"
Jonathan glanced at his children, his expression softening. He gave a small nod and said, “Alright, let's go."
His words were final, and he had nothing more to add.
The loss of Bethany weighed heavily on him, a consequence he felt was harsh enough given his parents’ actions.
Maybe it was the pregnancy, but Aimee felt endlessly drowsy.
She didn't wake up until the room was bathed in darkness.
When she opened her eyes, she vaguely heard voices outside-and one was a man's.
She frowned instinctively, listening closely, worried it might be her father. Thankfully, it was her cousin.
Now that Bethany came back from abroad, it was only natural that Jayson would show up. Aimee had guessed it.
"Jayson, you're here."
As soon as Aimee walked out, she noticed something off in the way Jayson looked at her.
She glanced at Bethany and asked, "Did you tell him?"
Bethany nodded. "Yes, I told him you and Nikolas had broken up."
So, she hadn't mentioned the pregnancy.
Aimee smiled as she sat beside Bethany. "Jayson, I would have told you sooner, but you seemed so upset already. I didn't want to add to your troubles with this news."
"Stop it!" Jayson's face grew stern, and his brows furrowed. "I told you Nikolas wasn't dependable, but you wouldn't listen. Now you've finally come to your senses after crying?"
Aimee stuck out her tongue and said, “I wanted to give it a chance! He was so kind to me at the time, but I didn't expect.."
"There's so much you didn't see coming! There's still time to sort things out since you're not married yet. But once you have that marriage certificate, it could really affect your future."
The gap between the first marriage and the second was enough to scare off many men.
She was free to date anyone before marriage and could have as many boyfriends as she liked. Until she got married, she was considered single, with all the freedom that came with it. But once the marriage certificate was signed, everything would change.
When Jayson heard that Aimee intended to get engaged to Nikolas, his anger boiled over. He was so furious that he wanted to confront both Nikolas and Aimee.
“I know. Jayson, please stop scolding me. Bethany is right here. Please don't make things awkward." Knowing Jayson's tendency to lecture as a teacher, Aimee seized the opportunity to use Bethany as a diversion.
Sensing the tension, Bethany intervened. "Jayson, Aimee has already admitted her mistake and ended things with Nikolas. She's feeling pretty down right now. Let's not add to her stress by scolding her."
“Aimee! You're always so thoughtless." Jayson exhaled deeply and turned his gaze to Bethany. “Bethany, about finding a lawyer..."
