Chapter: 111
“But if his parents accepted you, why would they let him come alone? You're married now, but as your mother, I've never met his parents. No one will believe our story if we tell others!" Marie retorted.
Bethany knew her mother had set a challenging trap for them.
Marie was not easy to deceive.
When the tension was becoming too much, Jayson asked in surprise, "Ma'am, are you saying you would like to meet my parents?"
Marie was stunned by his reaction. She raised her eyebrows and studied him.
"They were aware I was visiting you today, and they repeatedly expressed a desire to come along to demonstrate their genuine support and acceptance of Bethany. But Bethany told me you prefer a peaceful setting and don't like disruptions, so I came alone."
Bethany silently commended Jayson, thinking he was really clever.
But then Marie responded, "If that's the case, please ask them to come now! Otherwise, they might think I'm hard to deal with!"
Now?
"Mom! Please, let's not..." Bethany tried to cut in.
However, Jayson agreed. “If it's alright with you, I'll call them now. My parents would be thrilled to come and meet you!"
Things were spiraling out of control, and Bethany's heart raced with anxiety.
How on earth was Jayson supposed to find two people to pretend to be his parents? And what if this charade dragged on and her mother still wasn't convinced? Would Jayson and the actors have to keep up their roles indefinitely?
As Jayson stepped out of the ward to make a call, Bethany turned to her mother with a frown and said, "Mom, you're pushing too hard! His parents have jobs. How can they just drop everything and come here?"
“He brought it up himself. He said his parents were eager to meet me. Why shouldn't I take him up on that?"
Marie had devised countless tests to confirm whether her daughter was genuinely married or had simply attached herself to some wealthy man.
Bethany felt torn. She glanced towards the door and said, "I'm going to check on his conversation with his parents. If they can't make it, please don't make this harder for him, okay? We can arrange another day. That way, they can prepare."
"No." Marie was resolute. "If you're both conspiring to deceive me, why would I give you more time to scout for actors?"
Outside the ward, Bethany followed the sound of Jayson's voice and found him.
When Jayson noticed Bethany, he smiled reassuringly and soothed her in a gentle tone, “Don't worry. My parents said they'll be here soon!"
Bethany was astonished. “Did you really call them?"
"Yes!" Aware of Bethany's anxieties, Jayson aimed to put her at ease.
He didn't want her to spend the day fretting. “Since I committed to helping you today, I'm here for the long haul. When Aimee briefed me on your mother's health, I anticipated how she might test us. So I informed my parents beforehand, and they were more than willing to participate. They even commended you for your devotion."
"Mr. Watson, I don't know how to thank you."
