Chapter: 1142
“We must find a way!" Aimee peered deeply into Nikolas’ eyes. "Today is his birthday. I just want you to grow closer to him. If Jayson can accept you, our problems will be minimal. At worst, my parents will scold us."
Nikolas, resigned, nodded in agreement. “Alright, I'll try to win him over. Don't worry."
"I know you don't Like Jayson because he keeps us apart. But that's only because he cares deeply for me! He has been my guardian since childhood. It's painful to see you two in conflict."
Aimee felt torn, caught between her cousin and her boyfriend, Jayson was her family, Nikolas her heart. Either choice pained her.
"I see your point." Nikolas touched her hand reassuringly. “Are you feeling a bit better now?"
“Much better, thank you. Let's head back. We shouldn't leave Bethany alone with Jayson for too long. She might feel uncomfortable."
Nodding, Nikolas scooped her up gently in his arms.
Aimee initially tensed, but Nikolas assured her, "I'll carry you to the door, then you can walk from there."
Upon their return, they found Jayson dishing out food for Bethany.
Bethany forced a smile but didn't touch her food.
"You're back. Should we head to the hospital?" Jayson's concern was always focused on Aimee's health.
"No need to worry. The doctor said it's a normal reaction. Remember how often Bethany felt sick during her pregnancy?"
Bethany nodded. "Yes, it will improve with time."
"Yes." Aimee kept her gaze lowered, avoiding eye contact with Jayson.
The birthday party, meant to be a celebration, now felt laden with tension.
Bethany regretted her decision to attend. Staying away might have only complicated things for Aimee. If Jayson reprimanded them, Nikolas would be quick to defend his girlfriend, possibly igniting a clash between the two men.
While eating, Nikolas suddenly looked up and addressed Jayson.
“Jayson, today is your birthday. Aimee and I have prepared a special gift for you."
Jayson's eyebrows knitted together. “If that's the case, your ‘gift’ is quite the ‘surprise.'"
Nikolas was momentarily speechless.
Aimee chimed in quickly, "Jayson! He put a lot of thought into the gift."
Bethany added her support. “It's your birthday today. Let's set aside everything else."
Nikolas leaned down, retrieved a box from beneath his chair, and presented it to Jayson.
“Happy birthday, Jayson."
