Chapter: 1145
“I can help sway Aimee's parents." Jayson shifted gears without warning.
Nikolas looked puzzled. "And what's the catch?"
"You and Aimee help me convince Bethany to date me."
Nikolas was momentarily speechless.
"If you agree, I'll speak to Aimee's parents tomorrow and ensure they support you as their future son-in-law."
Nikolas raised his eyes, startled by the request. "You've been chasing Bethany for so long. If she was going to say yes, it would have happened already. What can Aimee and I do?"
Jayson protested, “I'm aware she has feelings for Jonathan, but they can't be together anymore. Death has come between them, and then there's Bethany..."
“Bethany is the whole world to Jonathan. I can't agree to your request."
If Jonathan were to discover this, Nikolas knew he would be in deep trouble. He had no intention of engaging in such perilous antics.
"But Jonathan has let her go, hasn't he?" Jayson furrowed his brow, blocking Nikolas’ way. “He believes Bethany doesn't trust him enough, that she can't love him without conditions, that their love is unequal. And none of that matters to me. Even if Bethany never loved me, I would still want her."
“When did Jonathan ever relinquish his love for Bethany?" Nikolas responded immediately. "Do you really think Bethany could take on the Bates family, secure a lawyer, all on her own? Jonathan was behind it alu"
"Then why hasn't he appeared before Bethany? Why maneuver from the shadows?" Jayson fixed his stare on Nikolas.
He wasn't surprised in the slightest.
He always seemed to guess Jonathan's every clandestine effort to support Bethany.
Nikolas considered for a moment.
"Because with a mother like his, Jonathan feels too disgraced!"
Jayson sneered. “I suspect when Jonathan first uncovered the truth, he clung to a shred of hope. He believed if Bethany could completely trust him and reach out, he'd forsake his family ties and rush to her side, abandoning everything to stand with her."
Although Nikolas was straightforward and not given to deep thought, this conversation made him see Jonathan's dilemma a bit more clearly.
Shrugging his shoulders, Jayson added, “But you've seen the outcome! The fact that things are like this now proves that Bethany didn't reach out. Instead, she pushed him to the opposite side!"
Nikolas kept silent.
“So, they're finished," Jayson concluded.
As an observer with the deepest insight into their situation, Jayson was acutely aware of the profound gap between them.
If Bethany didn't initiate reconciliation, Jonathan would never muster the courage to return to her. However, taking the initiative was not one of Bethany's strengths.
Perhaps Bethany never blamed Jonathan, but unless Jonathan manipulated the circumstances to force her to confront her feelings as he had in the past, Jayson was sure their story had come to an end.
