Chapter: 1155
The commitment Jayson had shown over the years wasn't something she could merely dismiss with a “thank you." Raising a child involves endless days and nights filled with companionship, care, and attention, from minor sicknesses to serious hospital visits.
The enormity of the favor Jayson had done her felt as though he had some stake in her life.
“I'm not sure either," Aimee said, gesturing dismissively. "You don't need to have all the answers. Let him do what he wants as long as he doesn't hurt you."
"His parents must dislike me."
"Don't fret about that. I'll ensure they don't blame you. It's my cousin who stubbornly refuses to date another woman. You haven't made any promises to him."
If they were to blame Bethany, it would be utterly preposterous.
Bethany was left without words.
"I just hope my cousin doesn't try anything foolish. He'd better not keep testing Jonathan's limits. I'm really worried that Jonathan might take measures against him."
At first, Aimee thought it might be beneficial if Jayson could win her friend over, but not anymore.
After seeing what Nikolas was capable of, she genuinely feared that Jonathan might target Jayson. Her cousin wouldn't even see it coming.
“He won't." Bethany shook her head.
“Hey!" Aimee sat up abruptly, her expression one of exasperation. “If it weren't for your sake, Jonathan would have taken severe action against my cousin by now."
Bethany didn't think so.
Jonathan wasn't that menacing, was he?
Aimee made him sound like a harbinger of doom.
Meanwhile, Nikolas had no patience for lengthy and tedious meetings.
The shareholders droned on, never quite getting to the point, simply scouting to see which proposal would most benefit them.
Nikolas couldn't help but marvel at Jonathan's patience. How had he not dismissed these old men from the meeting yet?
As soon as the meeting concluded, Nikolas stood and exited without a moment of delay.
His office was empty.
Clearly, Aimee had gone to Bethany's office.
Stepping into the elevator, he checked his phone and noticed a new message from Jonathan.
"The earliest I can wrap up here is in three days."
Reflecting on their last phone call, Nikolas allowed a smirk to cross his face.
