Chapter: 1160
As Bethany walked into the building, Aimee's expression showed clear disapproval.

“I signaled you not to inquire further. Why did you have to press the issue? Bethany dislikes that!"

Nikolas ignited the car and clicked his tongue. “Aren't we trying to mend fences between her and Jonathan? I'm only trying to assist!"

"There's a tactful way to handle it. You shouldn't dredge up issues about parents with Bethany. Don't you know about her childhood—"

"Are childhood issues still troubling her? I wasn't being sarcastic. I simply wanted us to enjoy some time together. Is Bethany truly that sensitive?"

“Bethany has always been like that. Anyone who wishes to get close to her, whether as a friend or more, must exhibit immense patience! Given your approach, I'd wish you Luck in securing another meal with her. If she agrees, I'll accept any punishment you choose!"

“Is Bethany genuinely that wary of men?"

“Far more than you might imagine."

Nikolas frowned. "I harbor no ulterior motives towards her!"

“I've told you before; she's exceedingly wary, even with male acquaintances."

Nikolas smacked his lips, finally understanding why Jonathan had opted for a gentle, patient approach rather than pushing boundaries.

When Bethany returned to her office, she discovered a bouquet of flowers on her desk.

Countless possibilities crossed her mind, yet she was certain they weren't from Jonathan.

She picked up the accompanying card.

It was from Kiley, offering an apology for her previous behavior and narrow-mindedness, hoping for Bethany's forgiveness.

Bethany considered returning the flowers to Kiley but dismissed the idea as petty, which might only escalate tensions.

Instead, she settled into her chair, booted up her computer, and found Kiley on the company's internal software, quickly sending her a "Thank you for the flowers."

After a demanding day at work, Bethany felt thoroughly drained.

Fortunately, she didn't need to visit West Legal Services today as they were merely awaiting the filing of a case.

Weary, she flagged down a taxi to her apartment, making sure to take the bouquet with her.

If she didn't put them in water tonight, they would surely wilt by morning.

Once home, she stopped at the supermarket to buy some vegetables and fruits before going upstairs.

Just as she finished arranging the flowers, her phone rang.

It was Aimee.
