As Bethany checked the time and started her work, she kept an eye on the meeting's progress. Noticing it was still going, she returned to her tasks.

Brody completely misjudged how long the meeting would take. Jonathan addressed all points in a single, extensive session that lasted almost four hours.

Worn out from the day, Bethany struggled to stay awake at her desk, at times believing she had actually dozed off.

If Jonathan hadn't called, she likely would have stayed at her desk all night.

"Huh?" Bethany answered the call, her voice still groggy.

“Brody said you wanted to talk to me."

"Yes, that's right. I needed to speak with you." Bethany patted her face to wake up, trying to reboot her brain. “Is it true you're sending flowers to all the directors at Bates Group?"

“Who told you? Brody?"

“If I told you I figured that out on my own, would you believe me?"

Jonathan was rendered speechless.

Bethany, too tired to beat around the bush, cut to the chase.

“There's no need for that. The flowers I got were from a female colleague apologizing for a disagreement. She got them as a way to make peace."

If a male colleague had sent flowers, she wouldn't have accepted them, much less taken them home.

"Yeah, I understand that."

“No, you don't. Please, no more flowers. I don't have the time to deal with them every day!"

After a brief pause, Jonathan agreed, “Okay.”

“Alright, you go back to work. I'm going to sleep.”

Bethany yawned, and as she lay down in bed with her phone still in hand, she fell asleep immediately, not realizing she hadn't ended the call.

Jonathan listened to her breathing evenly, didn't disturb her, and quietly slipped on his headphones to listen.

Bethany had no idea when Jonathan ended the call. By the time she awoke, her phone had run out of battery and shut down.

She plugged it in to charge and then headed to freshen up.

As she washed, memories of the previous night's conversation with Jonathan surfaced.
