Chapter: 1169
Although Aimee stepped out of the car, she seriously contemplated the possibility of not accompanying Nikolas upstairs.
However, before they could come to a conclusion, they heard Henson's voice behind them.
"Aimee?" he called out.
Aimee froze instantly.
Nikolas felt as though he'd been shot. He stiffly raised his hand and waved. "Hi, Henson. What a coincidence."
Aimee felt her heart leap into her throat, wishing she could clamp her hand over Nikolas' runaway mouth.
How could he joke at such a pivotal moment?
As expected, Henson's expression darkened Like storm clouds gathering, his eyes flashing with barely contained fury.
"Didn't you two break up?" he asked.
“Well, theoretically, yes. But in reality, we've gotten back together,"
Aimee said with a mischievous grin, scampering over to Henson and clinging to his arm, “Dad, I still like Nikolas a lot, so I gave him another chance!"
Henson's frown deepened. "Don't you mind that he has affairs with another woman?"
Nikolas jumped in, his words tumbling out in a rush. “No, I really didn't! It was a misunderstanding."
"Misunderstanding?"
"Yes, it was a big misunderstanding." Nikolas nodded. He didn't dare to bring up Aimee's pregnancy yet.
Before they had left home, Aimee had urged Nikolas to take it slow, fearing that unveiling everything at once would overwhelm her parents.
Henson's gaze turned to Aimee, piercing as a hawk's. “He said it was a misunderstanding. Do you believe him?"
"I do! It was really a misunderstanding. I was too furious at the time to listen to his explanation. So I broke up with him! He tried to explain to me many times and even showed me evidence. That's when I realized I had wronged him."
Aimee had confessed her fear of revealing the whole truth to her parents. Now, faced with their disappointment, she worried they'd come down too hard on Nikolas. So, she shouldered most of the blame herself.
"It wasn't all Aimee's fault. I was at fault too! It's my fault for making her sad." Gritting his teeth, Nikolas walked up to Henson and slapped himself hard across the face. "Please give me a chance! I swear it will never happen again!"
Henson stood slack-jawed, barely containing his anger at Nikolas' dramatic display.
“You young people enter into relationships and break up so easily! You don't think things through! Aimee, you swore you'd never get back together with him."
Aimee's cheeks flushed with embarrassment. "I did say that."
"Your mother and I aren't getting any younger, yet here we are, still worrying over you! When you said Nikolas hurt you, we stood by your side and protected you at any cost. That's what we were supposed to do! But now you two are back together. How are we supposed to handle this? Have you thought about that?"
