Chapter: 123
However, it went to voice mail.
Acting on impulse, Bethany then called Brody.
“Hello, Brody, may I speak with Mr. Bates?"
“Mr. Bates? He's boarded the plane. I drove him to the airport and am currently on my way back."
Bethany remained silent.
"You can send him messages. He'll see them once he lands."
"Could you tell me where he's headed for his business trip?" Bethany asked, nervously biting her Lip.
"He's off to Watimere for a conference on science and technology development."
So Jonathan had gone abroad.
Brody then picked up on something in Bethany's tone. “Is there something urgent?"
“No, no. I just heard about his car accident and wanted to check on him." Bethany chuckled seLf-mockingly.
“Don't worry; he's fine! By the way, can you make it to work tomorrow?"
"Yes. I'll see you tomorrow."
"Alright."
After hanging up, Bethany felt as though she had used up all her remaining energy.
She had just spent her last bit of courage.
Truthfully, she wasn't sure what she would have said had she managed to speak with Jonathan. Was she supposed to explain why she and Jayson were at the hospital together, discuss ending their marriage, or inquire about his well-being.
Now, as she stood in front of the bathroom mirror, she considered it a stroke of luck that the call hadn't gone through.
This way, she could pretend she never called him, and just wait for Jonathan to reach out, whether to discuss the end of their marriage or something else.
After dinner, Jayson drove Bethany and Aimee back home. Once he made sure they were safely inside and the door was locked, he drove off.
Bethany was so exhausted that she went straight to bed after taking a shower.
That night, she slept fitfully, curling up tightly and clutching the quilt to her chest.
The next morning, the alarm clock woke Bethany.
She opened her eyes to an unfamiliar ceiling and took a moment to remember that she was at Aimee's place.
