Chapter: 124
After getting dressed and freshening up, Aimee emerged from her bedroom with her phone in hand. "Hold on, don't leave yet. I've just ordered breakfast. We can head to work together afterward."
Bethany checked the time and replied, "I can't wait. It's a long way from here to Bates Group. I need to head to the subway now. I won't be joining you for breakfast."
“You could take a taxi. It's not that expensive." It was only after saying this that Aimee remembered Bethany would never take a taxi if there was a subway available, always preferring the cheaper option.
“It's fine. I'll grab something to eat at noon. Bye."
Bethany left with her laptop and bag. It was her first day traveling to Bates Group from this new location, so she spent some time figuring out the route.
Luckily, she had left early and managed to arrive on time.
“Good morning!" As soon as Bethany got to the office, she saw Brody at the door, holding a take-out bag.
"You haven't had breakfast, right?" he asked.
“I'm not hungry. I'll eat something later," Bethany replied with a smile.
“Here, I accidentally ordered too much. Try this strawberry toast."
Brody placed the take-out bag on Bethany's desk.
"Don't; it's too expensive!"
"I would hate to see it go to waste. You might as well have it."
Then, without waiting for a response, Brody headed straight for the elevator to his office.
Feeling somewhat defeated, Bethany sat down and opened the fancy take -out bag.
The toast from that bakery was super expensive. Could Brody really have been about to discard a bag that was still half full?
Holding the toast, Bethany briefly entertained the idea that maybe Jonathan had instructed Brody to buy it for her.
But she quickly dismissed that thought.
How could that be?
She had been really overestimating herself lately.
Bethany turned on her computer and, while nibbling on the toast, began to organize the documents that needed to be sent to the Legal department for review.
After the morning meeting, Bethany checked her email and noticed there was no feedback from the Legal department yet.
Usually, the duration of the morning meeting was sufficient for the legal team to review the documents.
Bethany called the legal department using the internal phone system.
