Chapter: 128
"Let me drive you back before I take Aimee out to dinner."
"No, that's okay. I'll take the subway."
"Don't turn us down! It would make Jayson feel awkward."
Aimee implied that if Bethany refused again, it would create an awkward situation for everyone involved.
"Then... Please, Mr. Watson."
After getting back to Aimee's place, Bethany didn't even pause for a glass of water before she started to organize her materials for the upcoming meeting.
She had just been assigned the task for the Creation Group project that day, a significant initiative from the head office. Being new to this project, she recognized the need for thorough preparation.
Once she was prepared, Bethany settled in, powered up her computer, and logged into the meeting platform.
The screen displayed: "The main meeting staff for the first channel's technology development project: Jonathan Bates."
Seeing his name triggered a wave of nerves in Bethany.
Would she discover the extent of his injuries or if his face had been marred?
She glanced at the time displayed on the bottom right of her computer screen. There was still almost an hour until the meeting was set to start. Normally, she would grab something to eat, unsure of how long the meeting might stretch.
However, Bethany couldn't bring herself to look away from the screen.
She chose instead to watch the minutes tick by, eagerly awaiting the start.
Time dragged slowly. It reminded her of the time when Carson had first introduced her to Jonathan.
As the clock neared the meeting time, Bethany's anxiety grew.
Just a few minutes before the meeting, she saw the first channel activate, and a notification prompted personnel to join.
Bethany instinctively moved to click the “enter” button but hesitated for a few minutes, debating.
Would it be awkward if it ended up being just her and Jonathan alone in the meeting?
She was probably worrying too much.
When she finally joined the meeting, Brody was already there, though Jonathan's camera remained off.
Just then, Bethany received a message from Brody.
“My internet connection is poor today. Please send me the meeting notes tomorrow."
She responded with an OK emoji and switched back to the meeting screen, where Jonathan's face had just appeared.
