Chapter: 127
After work, as Bethany exited the office building, she spotted Jayson's car from a distance, with Aimee standing beside it.

Bethany quickly approached and asked, "Why are you here?"

"Since your office is so far from my house, why not have my cousin pick you up? He's free today.”

“There's no need. I can take the subway back."

Aimee looped her arm through Bethany's, laughing. “I just miss hanging out with you! Back when we were both at Ensson Corporation, I got to see you every day. Now that you're here, I don't have anyone to chat with."

Bethany smiled and replied, "Then you should work hard. Carson hasn't been monitoring you lately, but he'll surely review your performance at year's end."

"I'm not scared of him!" Aimee rolled her eyes. "If he gives me one of those lectures again, I'll quit! I don't Like his management style. He's all in when things are good, but as soon as there's trouble, he blames everyone else."

Aimee's family wasn't dependent on her income, so she felt no pressure.

But Bethany's situation was different.

Jayson, who had been quiet, added, "It's the same everywhere. Even school staff face issues with their principals."

“Have you ever had trouble with your principal?"

"No, he wouldn't dare."

Thanks to Jayson's strong reputation and position at school, the principal avoided confronting him.

"Ha-ha!" Aimee made a face. "Let's get out of here and grab something to eat. I'm starving!"

She started to lead Bethany away.

"I have a meeting at eight o'clock. I need to go back and prepare some documents. I can't join you," Bethany explained.

She really needed to do that, and she wasn't keen on spending much private time with Jayson.

Bethany recognized that Jayson was a decent man and understood his intentions, but currently, she wasn't in the right frame of mind to consider any romantic involvement, not with the unresolved situation with Jonathan still hanging over her.

She couldn't embark on anything new.

“What? You need to stay late for work?" Aimee was disappointed.

She had hoped to see Bethany and Jayson spend more time together.

"Yes. A lot is happening at work right now. That's a good thing. I'm trying to earn more money. Then, when my mother is discharged from the hospital, I can buy her a house."

Bethany considered renting a place but knew her mother would struggle if the landlord proved difficult.

Aimee was about to try persuading Bethany further when Jayson intervened.
