Chapter: 141
Her mother was a control freak.
She would treat her son-in-law as harshly as she treated her daughter.
“Bethany, I haven't been through it, but I'm willing to give it a shot. Give me a chance." Jayson took a deep breath. "I know this might not be the best time to say it, but I'm serious. My parents are backing me up too."
"Don't get involved in my family's issues." With a slight bow, Bethany expressed her gratitude. "Thank you for everything. Please leave with your parents.”
Jayson stayed quiet.
“It's inevitable we will run into each other again, given Aimee is my best friend. You wouldn't want things to be awkward between us, would you?"
After a long pause, Jayson nodded reluctantly. "Okay, let's head back now. I'll keep my promise. If you need anything, just let me know.”
As Bethany watched them leave, a lump formed in her throat, and tears threatened to spill.
She knew herself well.
She believed Jayson was out of her league, let alone Jonathan.
Living a peaceful life with him seemed like a distant hope.
Her mother's operation was a success.
Jonathan had invited the best doctors, which had laid the groundwork for a second surgery.
"The patient needs plenty of rest. Make sure she doesn't get too upset; we don't want any complications like a heart attack."
“Okay, I see. Thanks, doctor!"
As the nurses pushed her mother's bed back to the ward, Bethany was taken aback to see the table filled with fresh fruits and expensive supplements.
She hadn't seen Jayson bring these items earlier in the day.
Intrigued, she approached and found a note from the shop next to the fruit basket. It included the ward address and a surname: Mr. Bates.
Were these from Jonathan?
Bethany went straight to the ward door to question the two bodyguards, but they claimed ignorance.
She pulled out her phone, contemplating calling Jonathan, yet hesitated at the last moment and didn't dial his number.
What difference would it make if they were from him?
At best, it represented a boss's concern for an employee.
