Chapter: 144
Aimee had seen him before.

Moreover, the fact that they had sex was because of Aimee.

Yet, Bethany didn't feel comfortable addressing Aimee's probing. She brushed it off by saying, "I was drunk that night, so I don't remember."

"What? Just one night? You haven't spoken since then?"

Aimee's curiosity was piqued as if she had stumbled upon something extraordinary. She wasn't about to let the topic go.

“He has a girl he likes," Bethany replied, effectively shutting down any further questions from Aimee.

Aimee was taken aback. “Then why did he sleep with you?"

"We were both drunk," Bethany repeated, placing the blame on their intoxication.

That night led to a proposal for a marriage contract, once he realized Bethany resembled Maddie.

“That man's no good. He likes someone else but still slept with you. You should forget him fast. A playboy's one thing, but a man who loves someone else is trouble."

As she spoke, Aimee grabbed the condom from Bethany's bag and tossed it in the trash, symbolically discarding the troublesome man.

Bethany was confused and asked, "Why? Isn't a playboy worse?"

"A playboy might eventually settle down after he has enough fun because he's been through it all. But a man who loves someone else will never fully commit to you. No matter how amazing you are or how deeply you love him, you'll never match the woman he holds in his heart."

“I understand," said Bethany quietly.

“Do you really want to be just someone's substitute?" Aimee asked.

Bethany shook her head firmly and said, "No."

“Exactly! Love is tricky. The more you show you care, the less serious he'll take you. But at least you got what you needed from each other, and it sounds like you enjoyed the experience."

Bethany was at a loss for words.

It seemed her bold move that night was somewhat influenced by Aimee's liberal mindset.

As if worried Bethany would get too attached to this man, Aimee kept repeating herself, encouraging her to view it as a mere fling and to guard her heart.

Eventually, they circled back to talking about Jayson.

“My cousin is really into you. If you're not ready now, think of him first when you consider a relationship in the future, okay?"

Bethany responded helplessly, “After all that's happened, do you really think I deserve him?"

"Are you joking? He'd be Lucky to have you as his wife. You haven't done anything wrong. It's just adults enjoying themselves. Jayson wouldn't mind that."
