Chapter: 161
"Yes." Brody nodded, still puzzled. "But I think he also feels sympathy for your family situation. He's experienced a lot in the investment field, so he wants to support you more. By coming to Canbidge, your name gets added legitimately."

So Jonathan felt sorry for her.

“Bethany, don't overthink it. In our industry, it's all about performance. Family background doesn't matter Mr. Bates values responsibility at work. Since he cares about you, he must see you as talented."

Bethany smiled and said, “We were classmates in junior high school. He knows all about my family. There's nothing for me to overthink. I actually need to thank Mr. Bates!"

After sending Brody away, Bethany returned to her room, and suddenly felt empty in her heart.

She couldn't understand why.

She picked up her phone, thought for a moment, and sent a message to Aimee.

“Do you think that the more possessive a man is towards a woman, the more he loves her?"

Like Jonathan now, feeling jealous over her, Maddie's stand-in.

Aimee replied almost instantly, "Of course! There is no doubt about it."

Before Bethany could reply, Aimee had already sent another message.

"I think there's something wrong with you. Bethany, am I your best friend or not?"

“Of course you are."

"Then spill it! Who is this guy you can't stop thinking about? Don't try to hide it. Your actions are a dead giveaway that you're into someone."

Into someone? Jonathan?

Bethany was shocked at first. How could Aimee say that? To her, Jonathan was a figure of admiration, sacred and out of reach-not someone she could ever consider in a romantic Light.

"I'm just interested in how men act in relationships. You're overreacting."

Aimee wasn't convinced. "I knew you wouldn't confess. Just remember, it's okay to enjoy their company, but don't lose yourself to their fleeting affection! Do you think he treats you well? He might treat someone else even better. Men who are too charming at first often have hidden agendas. They're not looking for something permanent."

Bethany had intended to discuss her feelings about Jonathan with Aimee and seek her counsel.

But upon reading Aimee's message, she no longer saw the need.

Aimee had already addressed all her concerns. What else was there to discuss? It appeared that all wealthy individuals, perhaps all men, followed a similar pattern, which was why Aimee could pinpoint her confusion to Jonathan's overwhelming kindness.

Bethany realized she had to be ready for the day Jonathan might pull back his affection, so it wouldn't take her by surprise.

After parting ways with Bethany, Jonathan retreated to his room.

He suddenly realized that the barrier between them wasn't just her reserved nature but also the significant social gap between their families.
