Chapter: 178
"You have to see it from Mr. Bates’ perspective. He really does support you. Dismissing Maddie would be a big deal. Mr. Bates must weigh the loss of a key player as well as the risk of her joining a rival and opposing Bates Group."

Given Maddie's recognized talent, many firms would jump at the chance to hire her.

For Bethany, an assistant, this situation could derail her career entirely, but for Maddie, an experienced lawyer, it was merely a hiccup.

She could fabricate any reason to go after Bethany, even if it was simply because she didn't like her.

At worst, some might quietly think of her as a bully to newcomers.

“So, as the victim, should I just accept this?" Bethany asked.

“Absolutely not, I'm merely outlining the current scenario." Brody sighed. “Don't rush to judge Mr. Bates for being disloyal. Due to this situation, he missed this morning's contract signing and returned to Odonset overnight."

Jonathan was back in Odonset?

At Pacific Residence...

Early in the morning, Francine was outside in the garden exercising.

Although distant from the city, the surrounding flora contributed to clean air-ideal for recovery.

"Francine, you've been active for twenty minutes. Time to rest! Don't push yourself too hard." Maddie, already in her business attire, came over to assist her.

Francine smiled and said, “I'm doing just fine. It's you who's being inconvenienced. Staying in the suburbs with me every day and rising early to commute."

"I do it to spend more time with you. Jonathan's too busy, so I can't leave you alone."

"Alright, alright, I appreciate that you're so devoted!"

Just as Francine finished her sentence, a black car pulled into the courtyard.

“Isn't that Jonathan's car? Wasn't he supposed to be gone for several more days?"

Maddie's grip tightened slightly, and her smile became forced. “Yes. It looks like he returned sooner than expected."

Jonathan even delayed the project in Canbidge for Bethany's sake.

He stepped out of the car, clearly fatigued; his normally handsome features marred by tiredness and dark circles under his eyes.

“What's wrong?" Francine asked and noticed her son's disheveled state.

“It's nothing major. Just been swamped at work, stayed up too late last night," he replied, not wanting to worry his mother. Then he turned to Maddie, who was standing nearby, and suggested, “We need to talk. Can we do it in private?"

Maddie nodded, her smile unwavering. "Why don't you drive me to the office today? That way, I won't have to drive myself!" She then turned to Francine. “Jonathan's come to pick me up. I'll ride with him."

"Go ahead!" Francine responded, pleased.
