Chapter: 179
She was happy to see her son taking the initiative with Maddie.
With his mother watching, Jonathan simply said, “Then let's go."
"I'll be back after work," Maddie said to Francine.
"Alright."
Leading the way, Jonathan showed no signs of slowing down for Maddie.
She hurried in her heels and nearly twisted her ankle.
Once in the car, Maddie feigned innocence and asked, “What brought you back from Canbidge so suddenly?"
“Why are you targeting Bethany?" Jonathan's tone was more accusatory than inquisitive.
Looking up at him, Maddie's voice carried a tinge of disappointment.
"You think I'm behind this? Just because Bethany said I set her up?"
“Then what?"
"I've dedicated years to Bates Group. Have I ever jeopardized the company's interests?" Maddie's gaze hardened as she stared at Jonathan's stoic face, feeling aggrieved. “And how long has Bethany been with us? What has she contributed to Bates Group?"
Jonathan frowned and remained silent.
“I thought you wouldn't doubt me." Disappointment was clearly etched across Maddie's face. "At least you should investigate before making accusations. Show me some respect!"
“Bethany has no motive to sell the technical drawings.”
That was why Jonathan believed in Bethany.
He could provide her with anything she needed, so there was no reason for her to resort to such measures.
"Why not?" Maddie countered sharply. "I don't need to remind you of her family situation, do I? Her mother is sick and in the hospital. Yes, you give her money, but that doesn't curb her greed. If another company offered her a significant sum, how can you be so sure she wouldn't be tempted?"
It was common knowledge at Ensson Corporation that Bethany was financially strapped.
Meanwhile, Maddie was financially secure. The dividends she had received from Bates Group over the years could support her extravagantly for a Lifetime.
By all accounts, Bethany had more motive than she did.
"She's not that type of person," said Jonathan.
"So, am I the type to betray my company for money?" Maddie retorted quickly, her voice tinged with hurt and disappointment.
Indeed, she had dedicated much to Bates Group, even now as she hadn't fully recovered from surgery. She continued to work tirelessly, ensuring the legal department suffered no delays.
