Chapter: 180
“That's why I asked why you're targeting Bethany."
Jonathan didn't believe Maddie was driven by financial gain either.
Maddie smiled. "Could it be that Bethany is jealous of me? Perhaps she decided to frame me after securing money by betraying the company? Jonathan, she grew up poor. She's not like you. Someone desperate can be driven to drastic measures!"
Jonathan scowled. He wasn't pleased to hear such a suggestion from Maddie.
"Do you think Bethany has feelings for you?" Maddie suddenly blurted out.
Jonathan tightened his lips and responded, "That's irrelevant to the issue."
“Why not? It is relevant! She has no feelings for you, yet she was willing to sign a contract for money and auction off her marriage. What wouldn't she sell?"
“Maddie Hinchcliffe!"
It was the first time Jonathan had used such a firm tone with her, despite their long acquaintance.
The air in the car turned icy, and neither spoke further.
Maddie turned away, staring out the window.
She made several attempts to regain her composure, not wanting to argue with Jonathan at this time.
"Let's just drive. Your mother might be watching us. We shouldn't let her see us disagreeing," Maddie pleaded in a softened voice.
Jonathan glanced in the rearview mirror.
As expected, Francine was observing them from the entrance of the villa.
“Jonathan, can you remain neutral until there's undeniable proof?"
"Please don't judge me too harshly just yet. I beg you."
Maddie's normally proud voice now quivered with emotion, close to tears.
It was indeed a fair request.
So far, Bethany hadn't produced any concrete evidence linking Maddie to the accusations.
Jonathan didn't respond verbally, but he accelerated the car away from the villa.
Armed with the evidence she could gather, Bethany arrived at Ensson Corporation with Aimee.
Upon seeing her, Carson asked angrily, “Did you find the proof?"
“I've recovered the message she sent me. Take a look." Bethany handed her phone to Carson.
