Chapter: 190
Aimee, always candid and somewhat naive, openly displayed her protective instincts towards Bethany.
"I'll find the evidence to clear my name." Bethany smiled masking her true emotions.
If it turned out she and Maddie were indeed related by blood, many confusing pieces would fall into place.
Maddie's determination to push her out of Bates Group, and her unease about her closeness to Jonathan...
The next morning, Bethany arrived at the Bates Group building at her regular time.
As she entered, she could feel multiple pairs of eyes on her.
With the internal investigation notice about Maddie now public, everyone was curious about the unfolding drama.
Under normal circumstances, no one would suspect the chief attorney, Maddie. The company could easily dismiss Bethany to quickly settle the matter.
She was, after all, a lesser figure in the grand scheme of things, and her potential exoneration would barely ripple through the company.
Meanwhile, even temporary suspensions of some of Maddie's duties were already disrupting several projects, leading to losses for the company.
"I've always seen her cozying up to Brody. Maybe there's something there."
“Exactly! She couldn't have swayed Mr. Bates, could she? Brody has been working with Mr. Bates for a long time; he must've influenced Mr. Bates to do her this favor."
In the elevator, Bethany positioned herself at the back, overhearing the whispers of two women in front.
She felt a surge of irritation and wanted to confront them for spreading rumors, but instead, she discreetly took out her phone and recorded their conversation.
She decided not to engage or defend herself just yet; she would let the truth speak for itself.
With Brody still in Canbidge, she found herself alone in the office.
Upon logging into her computer, she noticed an alert from the company's backend, asking for her cooperation with the ongoing investigation.
Soon after, she received a message from Brody. “You also need to temporarily step back from the SNS project. Don't hold it against Mr. Bates. He's doing what he can."
Bethany no longer harbored any resentment towards Jonathan.
Initially, she had felt unjustly burdened by these troubles, as if they were somehow linked to him, which left her feeling aggrieved.
However, she started to realize that there might be deeper motives behind Maddie's aggressive actions against her, beyond mere personal animosity.
If the speculation about her familial ties with that woman were true, then Jonathan's involvement or lack thereof was irrelevant to Maddie's motivations.
Moreover, as the president of a large corporation, Jonathan had demonstrated fairness by suspending Maddie's activities too. For this, Bethany felt thankful.
Whether he truly believed in her innocence or not, at least he had managed to maintain a position of neutrality.
