Chapter: 189
Suddenly, the other end of the line fell silent.

Bethany quickly followed up, saying, "Mom?"

“Why are you asking about her?" Marie responded sharply.

“I want to know what she looks like. I've never seen her before."

"What else could she look like? She's nothing but a slut! And so is her daughter!" Marie's anger flared. "Don't make me think of her again. It makes me sick!"

Bethany hesitated, then asked, "Mom, do you think I resemble that illegitimate daughter?"

After all, they shared the same father. There might be some resemblance.

"Of course not. Why would you look like a slut?"

Bethany realized that pushing Marie further would only raise suspicions and likely wouldn't yield any useful information, so she dropped it.

“Mom, get some rest. I'm really busy right now."

"Alright, just ensure you're taking care of yourself and eating properly!"

Bethany repeated "Okay" several times before ending the call. She stared at Maddie's number on her phone for a long time.

She began to suspect that Maddie's reasons for targeting her might extend beyond just Jonathan.

There might be deeper grievances.

Bethany sat quietly for a moment, then called Aimee.

“Aimee, do you know where to get a DNA test?"

“Yes, I do. I have a client who handles these. They're very accurate."

Aimee then asked, “What's going on? Why do you need this?"

"I want to have a DNA test."

There was a nagging question in her mind, and she needed answers.

Bethany decided not to disclose her plans to Aimee until everything was settled.

In the evening, upon returning from work, Aimee noticed Bethany packing her stuff again and inquired, “What's happening now? First, you mention a DNA test, and now you're moving out. I'm lost!"

Bethany paused, offered a smile, and explained, "The hospital requires the test. As for moving, the company is conducting a thorough investigation, and I need to stay at a specific location they've designated."

"They're really overstepping. Once you clear your name, I'll help you seek compensation for emotional distress from the company. If they refuse, we'll take legal action."
