Chapter: 196
Seeing Maddie hurt like that in her office must have left him worried and upset. Maddie was his first love.

Anticipating a reprimand, Bethany returned to her office. When she opened the door, she found Jonathan waiting on the sofa.

He was leaning back, looking sharp, and his gaze was fixed intently on Bethany.

“Why did you see Maddie without discussing it with me first?"

"I had something important to ask her." Bethany didn't feel guilty.

At most, she had pushed Maddie, but it wasn't intentional. Had Maddie not attacked her first, the push would never have happened.

Jonathan frowned and said, "You need to think more carefully before acting in such situations."

If Maddie had contacted the police, Bethany would have been taken to the police station for questioning.

With no cameras in Maddie's office, Maddie could have claimed anything about the blood.

If the police found Bethany responsible for Maddie's minor injuries, Bethany could end up detained for a considerable time.

“I forgot she'd just had surgery and she was the one who started it."

“You shouldn't have gone there."

"Mr. Bates, you keep saying I shouldn't have done this or that. But without any evidence, who's going to believe me?" Bethany didn't want to discuss this with Jonathan alone, to avoid rumors that she had bribed or seduced the president. But since he had repeatedly defended Maddie, she felt she needed to stand up for herself.

Jonathan looked at Bethany and quickly got up and walked towards her.

After a long pause, he finally spoke.

“Bethany, we are a couple."

Bethany was left speechless.

“Maddie and I are merely employer and employee."

Maybe it was Jonathan's imposing manner, or perhaps his words were too startling, but Bethany found herself at a loss for words, her thoughts blank for a moment.

"I've promised to seek justice in this matter. Just give me some time, okay?"

Before Bethany could fully grasp the meaning of Jonathan's words, he pressed his lips to hers.

As if he was punishing Bethany, he kissed her violently.

Only when Bethany started gasping for breath did Jonathan eventually let go of her lips.

The kiss was so intense that he rubbed off her lipstick, causing her lips to have the same color as her flushed cheeks.
