She was still in the early stages of pregnancy, and the baby's heartbeat was too faint to be heard at home with their equipment.

Jonathan had read up on it and learned that too many ultrasounds weren't good for the baby. So, the only time he could actually hear their child's heartbeat was during the checkups.

Bethany never guessed this was the real reason behind his insistence.

“Today, I'm going to record a bit of it." Jonathan's voice softened, his eyes lighting up with that unmistakable warmth he always had when talking about the baby. “When they're older, we can play it for them.”
