Next to her, Godfrey let out a soft chuckle. “My son truly has deep feelings for you."

“Jonathan is always very kind to me," Bethany responded, maintaining her composure even though she felt somewhat uncomfortable.

It wasn't that she was nervous; she simply hadn't had many formal meetings with Jonathan's father, let alone spent time alone with him, which made the situation feel a bit awkward.

“Jonathan is as stubborn as I was. Once he decides on something, there's no turning back," Godfrey said with a sigh. "I've always been aware of the imperfections of my wife. I knew about her less admirable actions behind the scenes. But as her husband, I felt it was my duty to protect her, to indulge her, as long as it kept her happy."
