Chapter: 219
“He wouldn't dare." Jonathan's expression was confident, suggesting he had the situation under control.
The only reason Rodger hadn't been replaced was due to his company's control over the core technology, which was still not fully developed in Canbidge and needed his support.
However, this arrangement wasn't permanent.
Bates Group didn't rise to prominence by mere rhetoric.
"Mr. Bates, please check the official website!" Suddenly, Brody spoke up urgently.
Jonathan paused for a moment before silently taking Brody's phone to examine the announcement.
The announcement was blunt and harsh, each word cutting deeply.
"Mr. Bates.."
“Notify the website team to take down this announcement immediately."
Jonathan knew Bethany must have seen it. With the time that had elapsed and her silence, he feared the fragile trust they had built was now in ruins.
Complications were mounting. Jonathan recognized that the situation with Maddie had to be addressed quickly.
He boarded a plane back to Odonset, trying to call Bethany, but she didn't answer.
After a brief hesitation, he opted not to send a message.
Given the circumstances, it was clear his mother had involved his father. She was intent on having Maddie as her daughter-in-law and seemed prepared to go to any lengths to ensure it.
Jonathan couldn't quite grasp why.
He had always assumed his mother wanted him to marry Maddie because she genuinely liked her. But now, it appeared there was a more profound reason.
The drastic steps taken today were meant to pressure him into compliance. If it were merely about preference, such extreme measures would not have been necessary.
“Mr. Bates, should I contact Bethany to clarify? This statement wasn't issued by you."
"No, I'll speak with her when I return."
Jonathan understood this wasn't a matter that could be settled with a brief conversation.
There was much more to sort out than he had initially thought.
Brody nodded, choosing not to press further.
Having worked with Jonathan for many years, Brody seldom saw him this stern. His expression was serious, lips tightly compressed, projecting an intense, almost forbidding demeanor.
Upon landing, Jonathan's phone vibrated.
