Chapter: 218
"I'm okay." After a pause, Bethany managed a weak smile at Aimee.

"Don't pretend you're okay! Let's go to the company tomorrow. I'll come with you! Damn it! Why are they assuming it was you?"

"Stay out of this." Bethany sighed. "It wasn't easy for you to join Bates Group. Don't let my problems jeopardize your job."

“What are you talking about? You think I'm scared?"

“Aimee, I appreciate your support. Really, that's enough."

Bethany realized that this was no longer just a dispute between her and Maddie. The chairman of Bates Group was aware of the situation, which meant Jonathan might not be able to resolve it this time.

Aimee had a promising career at Bates Group. Bethany didn't want her dragged into this mess.

"Bethany!"

"That's final. Go to work and don't cause a stir. Avoid conflicts with Carson."

"What about you? Are you just going to accept being treated like this?"

"No," Bethany replied with smile.

She had endured injustices at work before, but Maddie was now attempting to oust her from the investment industry entirely, threatening her very livelihood. If she didn't stand up for herself now, would she ever escape being at the mercy of others?

In the meeting room of the branch company in Canbidge.

Today's meeting was crucial due to the project's specificity, bringing together senior executives and core personnel of the company.

Brody was the sole secretary present. Given Jonathan's status, it was generally accepted that he should accompany him.

"The confidentiality of this development project is paramount. I trust everyone will adhere strictly to the terms of the contract and respect the collaborative nature of our work."

Rodger White, the acting CEO who had returned to Canbidge recently, emphasized this point after signing the contract.

Brody sensed that Rodger's emphasis was deliberate, likely informed by recent leaks of core information from Bates Group.

Brody was about to respond when he caught a subtle cue from Jonathan, a glance that suggested he let the comment pass without reaction.

After the meeting concluded, the attendees dispersed. Jonathan grabbed his suit jacket from the back of his chair and headed straight for the airport.

Brody followed closely. "Mr. Bates, why didn't you want me to respond earlier?"

"Arguing during the meeting would have been pointless and only delayed my return to Odonset."

His immediate concern was to return and address the situation with Bethany.

“I'm concerned Rodger might spread rumors."
