Chapter: 24
As expected, he finally let her go.
While Jonathan was in the shower, Bethany quickly got dressed and grabbed her laptop. As soon as he emerged in his black bathrobe, she said, "I'm going to redo all the investigation work on Zucron Company and reach out to the person in charge tomorrow. I've just revised the contract and emphasized the breach of contract section. Can you take a look at it for me?"
In such a respectful tone, she sounded more Like an assistant chasing after the CEO to discuss work than a wife who had just had intercourse with her husband.
Jonathan frowned and ran his fingers through his damp hair. "Didn't you say you were tired?"
Thinking about what she said to stop him earlier, Bethany smiled awkwardly. "I... I..."
"My assistant is going to drop off some food in a while."
“What?” Bethany was confused with the sudden change in topic.
“We'll discuss the contract over dinner," Jonathan explained simply before turning around to get dressed.
Bethany watched him leave in a daze.
Didn't he go to a dinner party just now? Why did he ask his assistant to bring dinner here?
But her growling stomach dictated that she accept his dinner invitation.
Bethany followed Jonathan to the dining room, where a lavish seafood feast awaited them. Just glancing at the extravagant spread, she could tell that this meal must have cost a fortune.
“Eat. There's no garlic in it," Jonathan said, signaling her to start.
He picked up a crab and began to peel it with precise, deft movements.
She hadn't noticed before how beautiful his hands were-cool and pale, with distinct joints and long fingers.
This man seemed to have no shortcomings.
"Mr. Bates, don't you eat garlic either?" she asked curiously.
Focused on peeling the crab, he simply shook his head without looking up.
Bethany, starving by now, decided not to hold back since he had invited her to eat. She lowered her head and started wolfing down some food.
Suddenly, she noticed that the crab meat Jonathan had so intricately peeled was placed in her bowl.
"Mr. Bates?"
"It's for you." Then, he went straight to business. “In this situation, you can't rely solely on the contract to bind the other party. If you want the funds in the account to cover the promised investment amount, there are other solutions. You can communicate with a third party to make up the shortage or submit an application to the head office to lend the money to the partner. This way, we can restart the project."
Feeling inspired, Bethany's eyes shone excitedly. She put down her fork and was about to write down what Jonathan said.
But Jonathan suddenly grabbed her by the wrist. Startled, she Looked up and met his deep-set gaze.
