Chapter: 268
Honestly, it would better if Brody took care of the project. The partner company trusted him-he'd been working for Jonathan for years without a single mistake.
Bethany, as his assistant, was also a reasonable choice, but given the recent security breach, there was bound to be some suspicion and mistrust.
"Bethany, I make the decisions here. If I say you're up to the job, then you are."
Bethany remained quiet.
“Why are you doubting yourself so much? If you weren't competent, I wouldn't have entrusted you with this responsibility.”
He spoke with intensity, his expression serious and commanding, similar to how he appeared during meetings at the office.
Bethany bit her lip. "But you will-"
"I trust you more than anyone. If anything goes wrong, it isn't just the partner company who will face losses; Bates Group will suffer significantly more," Jonathan reassured her, placing a piece of meat in her bowl. “Eat up, you'll need your strength for the challenges ahead."
“Jonathan, don't be so good to me," Bethany said, feeling a rush of emotions.
She felt uneasy and pressured. Before, she hadn't thought much about Jonathan's care for her. Now, though, she couldn't ignore the suspicion that he was biased towards her.
The most disturbing aspect was her sense that she had nothing of equal value to offer him.
Jonathan gazed at her silently for a while before speaking.
"You might never fully understand how much joy it brings me every time I do something for you."
Bethany was taken aback.
“Don't worry. I'm in no hurry."
Jonathan thought there was still plenty of time to take things at a leisurely pace.
After they finished eating, just as Jonathan was preparing to shower and relax, an urgent matter at the office called for his immediate attention.
Bethany, now in her pajamas, was set to organize some documents when her eyes landed on the calendar displayed on her computer screen.
It was already the 23rd...
Her period was usually expected around the middle of the month.
Bethany furrowed her brows, pondering for nearly a minute before letting out a sigh of relief.
She recognized that her sensitivity and overthinking were causing unnecessary stress, which had likely postponed her period. This was not beneficial for her health.
After the meeting, Jonathan opened the bedroom door lightly, cautious not to stir Bethany from slumber.
To his surprise, she was wide awake, her eyes glued to the laptop screen, fingers dancing over the keys in a rhythm of productivity.
