Chapter: 267
As Bethany brushed past, she paused, delivering a final blow.
“Jonathan's parents don't know your mother is a mistress and you're an illegitimate daughter, do they? Will they still support you if they know?"
Infuriated, Maddie lunged, but Bethany deftly evaded.
"Don't be so arrogant! Let's see how long your mother will live. Dad will eventually marry my mother."
“Even if he marries your mother, it's a fact that your mother used to be a mistress. Maddie, don't think you can manipulate everyone. I simply don't want to waste my time with you.”
In a battle of words, she stood poised to hold her own.
"You're only here because of Jonathan! Otherwise, you wouldn't be qualified to talk to me."
“Yes, I do rely on him. What's your point? He's my husband, and it's natural for me to rely on him."
Just as Bethany concluded, she felt a gentle touch on her shoulder.
Looking up, she met Jonathan's reassuring gaze.
"Maddie, do you have problem?" Jonathan asked, standing protectively in front of Bethany before she could speak.
It seemed that if Maddie said another word against Bethany, he was prepared to intervene.
In Jonathan's presence, Maddie wouldn't dare continue her arrogant ways.
She frowned, glanced at Jonathan, and said, "Remember the promise you made to your father."
With that, Maddie turned and walked away.
Surprisingly, Bethany didn't ask about her farewell remarks.
"I'm done here; let's head home," Jonathan said.
"Okay."
Instead of calling for a driver, Jonathan chose to drive them back to East Shade Bay himself.
Along the way, they stopped to buy some vegetables and fruits, then spent the evening cooking and enjoying a simple meal together.
Towards the end of dinner, Bethany paused, fork in hand, and suddenly said, "You should take back the account and password Brody gave me. It might reassure the partner company."
Jonathan stopped for a moment, a slight smile appearing on his Lips.
“They're not worried."
"You don't need to protect me from the truth. Given the circumstances, it's natural for them to have doubts. I understand! You shouldn't have to face this pressure just for my sake," Bethany insisted.
