Chapter: 276
“Bethany, this is just a natural morning reaction. It's called morning wood." Jonathan's expression was that of a professor during a lecture.

How would Bethany know that? She'd never been this close with another man before.

Jonathan added, "It usually clears up on its own after some time."

“Oh, I see." Bethany blinked, feeling a persistent warmth pressing against her abdomen, impossible to dismiss. "But you..."

Jonathan's imposing figure loomed over her, pinning her down. "Right now, though, it's different."

"Jonathan..."

He considered this moment his morning workout.

Following their intense "workout," Bethany found herself running late for work.

Luckily, Brody was quite sympathetic.

Jonathan had hurried back from his trip last night, and they were newlyweds, after all.

“Actually, you could start coming in an hour later," he suggested, picking up some documents.

“Why is that?"

"Since East Shade Bay is a good distance from here, you'll need the extra travel time. Plus, there's nothing crucial in the early meetings. You're mainly needed on projects, so it's fine if you skip them."

Finding a justification on the spot was tricky for Brody.

Bethany considered it deeply. “I'd prefer to be there, just in case something important comes up."

“Perhaps you should see what Mr. Bates thinks."

“Why bring him into this? Is it really that significant?" She looked up, the traces of their morning still visible on her neck, her expression innocent.

Scratching his head, Brody replied, “Just check with Mr. Bates, anyway !""

"Okay." Though Bethany didn't grasp the specifics, she trusted that Brody had his reasons.

Observing the naive and clueless girl before him, Brody let out a silent sigh.

It made sense why Jonathan preferred to hide his feelings for her.

If he were open around Bethany, she might flee before he ever got a chance to declare his feelings.

As Brody finished speaking, he gathered the documents, preparing to leave.

Just then, Bethany called out to him. "By the way, I'm planning to go for a medical check-up this Saturday. You're sure there's no work for me, right?"
