Chapter: 290
Godfrey hesitated, then nodded.

The two exited the ward and made their way to a secluded corner of the hallway. Only then did Godfrey hand over the phone.

Seeing that Jonathan actually dialed Brody's number, Godfrey relaxed slightly and moved aside to light his cigarette.

When Brody answered, Jonathan demanded, "Bring a new phone to the hospital and reach out to Bethany to check if she's alright. Keep me posted.”

"Yes, Mr. Bates."

After ending the call, Jonathan browsed through his father's messages even scrutinizing the blocked contacts list. He suspected Godfrey might have blocked Bethany's number, obstructing her attempts to communicate.

Yet, her number wasn't listed among the blocked.

This confirmed she hadn't responded or reached out.

While this should have been reassuring, an uneasy feeling gnawed at Jonathan's heart instead.

"Done with the call?" Godfrey inquired.

"Yes," Jonathan responded, returning the phone.

Godfrey offered him a cigarette, which he declined.

After a moment, Jonathan said in a resolute tone, "Dad, I know this might upset you and Mom, but I only want Bethany for the rest of my life."

"You're too young to talk about ‘the rest of your life.’ There are plenty of women better than her. You're being stubborn! Your mother and I appreciate Maddie for good reason. She can advance your career and she respects your mother. If you chose her, everyone would be content. Why must you oppose us?"

"I've told you, Bethany is the one I want."

“Really? And are you certain Bethany feels the same about you?"

“Absolutely,” Jonathan replied.

"I doubt that! Do you know a man named Jayson? Have you investigated him?" Pulling out his phone, Godfrey displayed several photos of Jayson with Marie. "See for yourself! Bethany already has a backup plan. With your mother and I opposing her, her mother's helping her scout new prospects. Jonathan, don't be deceived by her."

"There's nothing going on between Bethany and Jayson," Jonathan remarked.

"Ha," Godfrey scoffed, his voice dripping with sarcasm. "That's just because she has you now. Actually, she doesn't even deserve Jayson, given their conditions."

Jonathan's brow furrowed deeply. "You've been digging into Jayson's background too."

"I'm just trying to protect you from getting duped. You've always been so cautious with your personal Life. In college, while other wealthy kids were flaunting their flings, you stayed clear of any romantic entanglements. Now, all of a sudden, you're head over heels for Bethany. How could your mother and I not be concerned?"

"ALL I know is that I want her." For Jonathan, Bethany was the one.

His feelings had never swayed towards any other woman.
