Chapter: 291
Even before their paths crossed again, no one else ever stirred anything in him.

The only one who ever made his heart race was Bethany, and only her.

“You'll regret this one day!" With a dismissive snort, Godfrey turned and strode away.

Unexpectedly, Brody arrived at the hospital.

At the sight of him, Godfrey's face registered shock, mingled with a tinge of remorse.

Why didn't he realize that his son had summoned Brody here?

Brody approached, greeted Godfrey with a respectful bow, and then handed a phone to Jonathan. "Mr. Bates, here's your new phone. I've transferred all your data onto it."

"Alright." Jonathan accepted the phone and was about to power it on when Godfrey abruptly intervened.

“The situation with your mother is very critical. Bringing your phone in here could disrupt the medical equipment!"

For once, Jonathan acquiesced to his father's wishes. Instead of focusing on the phone, he locked eyes with his father.

The seconds ticked by...

Suddenly, Jonathan's voice cut through the silence, cold and accusing.

“What have you done to Bethany?"

He wasn't naive; he'd felt that something was amiss all along. It was natural for him to be at his sick mother's side, to fulfill his duties as a son.

However, his father's persistent efforts to block any contact with Bethany practically screamed that something untoward had happened to her.

"What could we possibly have done? She's just a young girl. Why would I harm her?" Godfrey's response came laced with feigned innocence.

"I hope that's the case." Jonathan didn't say another word to his father before he stormed out.

Brody, puzzled by the unfolding events, flashed a quick smile at Godfrey before rushing after Jonathan.

Left behind, Godfrey frantically dialed his wife's number. "This is bad. We can't keep it from Jonathan any Longer. He's probably on his way to find Bethany now."

"How could you let him leave? Get him back here! I haven't dealt with Bethany yet," Francine exclaimed, her voice a mixture of panic and anger.

Godfrey remembered the cold, detached look in Jonathan's eyes just moments ago. It was like staring into the eyes of a stranger. He felt paralyzed, unable to chase after him. “Do you think we've underestimated how much Bethany means to Jonathan?"

"Is this really the time to discuss that?" Francine's voice rose in frustration over the phone. "I don't care how much he cares about Bethany. The only girl who will become my daughter-in-law is Maddie! Find someone to stop her. I need Bethany cut off from Jonathan for at least three days, especially now that her mother has just passed away. I don't care what methods you use; just make sure they break up!"

After the phone call, Godfrey made no move to chase after his son.

He believed that if his wife had witnessed the intensity in their son's gaze moments earlier, she too might have reconsidered.
