Chapter: 298
He loved her deeply. It was not easy for him to win Bethany's attention. He couldn't bear the thought of all his dreams for the future falling apart.

“But what am I supposed to do, Mr. Bates? Bethany is the only one I want. If I give her up to you, where will I find someone else? Plus, she's made it clear she doesn't love you. Why do you insist on forcing the issue? Why not just let her go?"

Jayson was taking a huge risk by speaking up like this.

He couldn't even begin to imagine what Jonathan might do if he flew into a rage.

One thing was certain, Jonathan wouldn't be agreeing to a divorce anytime soon.

And he had underestimated Bethany's importance to Jonathan.

He had believed that Jonathan's absence when Bethany's mother passed away indicated indifference. Now, he realized Jonathan was completely unaware of it.

Jonathan was taken aback by this revelation. "Did she really say that?"

“Absolutely! Her mom even mentioned I'm a better match for Bethany than you are."

In a sudden surge of anger, Jonathan lunged forward, seizing Jayson by the collar and pinning him against the wall.

Jayson, being shorter, found himself hoisted off the ground by Jonathan's grip, struggling to keep his balance on tiptoes and visibly flustered.

“If I catch you lying to me, you'll regret it!" Jonathan couldn't believe Bethany would spread the word that she didn't love him.

"Ahem."

Caught off guard, Jayson felt suffocated, unable to utter a word.

Bethany rushed over, shouting anxiously, "Jonathan! Let him go!"

Jonathan and Jayson both looked in the same direction and saw Bethany walking towards them. She quickly pushed Jonathan aside and positioned herself protectively in front of Jayson.

“What are you planning to do to Jayson?" she demanded.

Jonathan was taken aback by Bethany's intensity. She stood before him like she was facing a dangerous enemy, her entire demeanor defensive and wary.

The vigilance in her eyes cut Jonathan deeply.

"Jayson, are you okay?" Bethany asked.

Jayson, still catching his breath, could only nod to indicate that he was fine.

Once she was sure Jayson was unharmed, Bethany turned back to Jonathan, her voice cold and accusing. "Is this all you can do? Do you think that being the CEO of Bates Group gives you the right to trample on everyone around you, treating their lives as if they're insignificant, allowing you to abuse us and decide their fates at will?"

Every word she spoke was harsh and unwavering.

Bethany had called Brody earlier to discuss her resignation and was surprised to learn that Jonathan was not at the company. Concerned that Jonathan might confront Jayson, she hurried over and arrived just in time to witness Jonathan grabbing Jayson by the neck.
