Chapter: 300
After a brief moment of silence, she finally spoke. “Thank you for helping with my mother's funeral.”

"It's no burden at all. Being here with you is a comfort to me."

Bethany gazed at him, her brow furrowed. "Jayson, I-"

"You don't need to say anything. I understand. Don't carry this burden alone. With your mother's accident and you and Aimee being close, it's only right for me to help. If I ever need help, I believe you'd do the same without hesitation. We're even now; don't carry that weight."

Jayson was beginning to understand Bethany more deeply.

But the more he understood, the more disappointed he grew.

He realized Bethany's heart was like barren land, lacking water and sunlight, so how could flowers bloom on it?

The fact that Jonathan could move Bethany so deeply showed how much effort and thought he had invested.

“After my mother's funeral, I'll end the pregnancy, severing the last tie between Jonathan and me. Then I'll leave here. I may not always be there when you need help, but if you ask, I'll do my best."

She spoke with clarity, as if sealing a contract.

Jayson had no choice but to nod. “Okay. Shall we go then?"

"Okay."

Bethany nodded, her eyes still moist, fixed on the direction in which Jonathan's car had vanished.

Who claimed her heart was stone-cold and incapable of being stirred?

It had been moved.

It resulted in her mother's untimely death.

So, should she still allow herself to be moved? Not anymore.

Jonathan's car raced down the road.

He pushed the gas pedal to the floor, almost as if he wished for a collision to end everything.

Luckily, the roads were wide and traffic was light, so nothing untoward occurred.

On the fifth call from Brody, Jonathan finally answered.

"Mr. Bates! Where are you? There's an urgent matter at the company that requires your immediate attention."

Brody's tone was gentle yet probing, careful not to upset his boss.

"I'm not in the right frame of mind for work right now. Handle it as you see fit."
