Chapter: 304
"Tell Maddie she's succeeded. But if she pushes me further, I won't hesitate to tell Jonathan everything." Bethany's lips curled into a bitter smile. It was tragic that Jonathan was her only card to play.
"She knows what will happen if Jonathan learns the truth."
Silence fell on Andrew's end.
Though unsure of Bethany's exact place in Jonathan's affections, her boldness suggested she had some leverage. With so much at stake, he couldn't afford to derail his daughter's meticulous strategies with careless comments.
“I just called to pay my respects to your mom. Why do you have to be so confrontational? Now that she's gone, I'm all the family you have left in this world! Maddie mentioned you're thinking of leaving Odonset? Come back, and I'll find you a job to compensate for the fatherly love you missed out on."
"Do you actually believe what you're saying?"
Bethany usually avoided conversing with him, believing any additional words were futile. But today, Andrew had truly infuriated her.
He must have been aware of the entire situation from the beginning, even if he wasn't directly involved. Yet, he chose not to stop them from hurting her mother, Likely satisfied with how things turned out.
She resolved when the truth came out, no one would be spared.
Bethany hung up. Aimee noticed her agitation and quickly patted her back. "Don't let it get to you! Bethany, remember you're pregnant. It's important not to stress."
The room fell silent at the mention of her pregnancy.
Realizing her blunder, Aimee quickly added, "I'm just concerned about your well-being. Even though you've decided not to keep the baby, you still need to look after yourself. After all, there's still a connection."
Bethany was struck by Aimee's words. Involuntarily, her mind echoed Andrew's recent words.
"Now that your mother's gone, I'm all the family you have left in this world!"
"No! There was still the child in her womb!"
Abruptly, Bethany lifted her eyes and locked gazes with Aimee.
The wind whispered around them.
For once, Aimee displayed some insight. She cleared her throat and asked, "You're not considering—"
“I won't let Jonathan know the baby's presence," Bethany murmured with conviction.
"Forget it! You know the struggles of being a single mom?" Having a close relative in that position gave Aimee firsthand knowledge of the challenges. Plus, Bethany should grasp this perfectly. Wasn't her mother a single mom?
“I do," Bethany acknowledged.
“Then—"
Jayson interrupted Aimee abruptly, covering her mouth with a swift motion. “Bethany, it's your decision whether to keep it or not. Take your time to think it over," he advised.
"Never mind. It was just talk," Bethany murmured, her eyelashes lowering. Her voice remained calm yet fragile. “I'm feeling a bit drained. I think I'll sit in the car for a bit. There are still things to sort out at the funeral home. I'll be back later."
