Chapter: 305
“Okay.”
As Bethany walked back to the car, Aimee shrugged off Jayson's hand, her brow furrowing in confusion. “Why did you intervene? Why encourage her to have the baby? Bethany has decided to sever ties with the Bates family. Bringing this child into the picture will only complicate things."
Aimee hesitated to characterize an unborn child this way, but it was the stark reality.
Bethany had only just begun to thrive in her career at Odonset, and now she was confronted with this predicament. If she left Bates Group, she would have to start anew. The prospect of raising a child seemed daunting.
“Have you noticed how Bethany seems to have lost all hope?" Jayson inquired, his brow creased.
“Huh? What?"
Jayson let out a sigh. “She's dealing with everything with calm resolve, suggesting she's gearing up for something."
"That's impossible. Bethany vowed to uncover the truth and hold those responsible accountable," Aimee countered.
"Do you honestly believe she's unaware that taking on the Bates family is a futile endeavor? Even you grasp that," Jayson replied, his eyes shifting to the car parked alongside the road. “She's prepared to kill the murderer and herself if justice eludes her."
Jayson had sensed Bethany's intention ever since she discovered she was pregnant and opted against keeping the baby.
He understood her love for Jonathan. Therefore, it seemed illogical for her to contemplate abortion without experiencing some internal conflict. There ought to have been a dilemma.
Aimee remained quiet.
“Let's convince her to keep the baby so that she won't lose the will to live. As the baby grows, she'll naturally grow more attached,"
Jayson suggested.
Aimee paused, her expression conflicted as she considered Jayson's words. Finally, she said, "Jayson, I was hoping that now that Bethany has finally left Jonathan, you might have a chance. It's selfish, but I really want you two to be together. Bethany is a wonderful person who deserves love. But if she ends up having Jonathan's baby..."
"You think I won't accept the child?"
Aimee was taken aback. "You mean, you don't have a problem with it?"
"At this moment, this child is Bethany's sole anchor, preventing her from making rash decisions," Jayson clarified.
"You're right." A sudden realization hit Aimee. "But Bethany just said she wouldn't keep the baby. I need to talk to her."
Aimee was the kind of person who had to act on whatever was on her mind. Once she knew something, she felt compelled to do something about it immediately.
Seeing her ready to rush off, Jayson quickly held her back. “Wait! We need to approach this carefully. She's not stable right now. She'll need someone at the hospital, and it's either you or me. We still have time to persuade her."
"Alright." Aimee nodded, her expression shifting to one of admiration.
"You're ready to accept Bethany, even with Jonathan's child?"
Jayson gave a bitter smile. "Do I really have a choice? It's not like Bethany ever chose me."
