Chapter: 321
Jonathan had clearly bought into her deception.
The absurdity of the situation struck her forcefully. Her ability to lie was notoriously poor, yet this time, Jonathan actually believed her.
"Is it Jonathan?" Aimee inquired, her intuition clear from her piercing gaze.
“Yes," Bethany murmured.
“He's still trying to keep you stay?"
Bethany shook her head. “No.”
“Would you consider giving it another shot? It's not too late," Aimee suggested thoughtfully.
They hadn't finalized their divorce yet, and Bethany knew that if she revealed the pregnancy to Jonathan, the divorce would surely be off the table.
"Choosing the wrong road doesn't mean you can find your way back to the right one.”
"What are you planning to do after you leave Bates Group?"
"I'm thinking of moving abroad."
She was aware that hiding her child within the country wouldn't be easy.
Even if Jonathan chose not to delve deeper, Maddie would certainly have someone tail her for a while.
After a moment of contemplation, Aimee nodded in agreement. “That sounds like a good plan. My cousin and I have talked it over. Once you and Jonathan divorce, you should marry Jayson. He can then take you abroad to give birth to the baby."
“Aimee, if I accept this proposal, I will despise myself," Bethany declared.
Her guiding rule was to avoid causing trouble for others. By agreeing to register a marriage with Jayson just to sustain her deceit, the lie might remain intact. However, what would become of Jayson?
How would he explain to a potential true love that he had once been married?
"But he's choosing this willingly," Aimee insisted, her expression sincere. "I've discussed it with him. He's prepared to stand by you through it all. He's even indifferent to the idea of you raising Jonathan's child. If you consent, he can simply tell his parents that the child is his."
"No," Bethany rejected firmly.
“Why must you push him away? What is it about Jayson that bothers you?"
At times, Aimee found Bethany's reasoning utterly perplexing.
If she were in Bethany's shoes, she would seize the offered assistance. Why was it so hard for her to just say yes?
“Aimee, he's your cousin. Do you really intend to sacrifice him in this way?" Bethany felt cornered. "He's so young. That's why he thinks like this. He's going to regret it someday."
"Adults have to own up to their actions. Regrets come later! But look at him now. He genuinely loves you more than I've ever seen before." Deep inside, Aimee wished they could end up together.
