Chapter: 326
He tugged at it, but Jonathan clung on firmly.
The two found themselves at an impasse.
The evening breeze played with Jonathan's hair, and with a grin, he said, “No trouble at all since I was escorting my wife.”
Anticipating another confrontation, Bethany quickly broke in. “Jayson, please take the luggage upstairs. I've been packing a long time and I'm completely worn out."
"Okay." With a raised eyebrow and a smug smile, Jayson turned and headed inside with Bethany, leaving Jonathan standing there alone.
He lingered for a long time before finally walking back to his car.
He pulled out his cigarette case and lighter, lit a cigarette, and took a deep drag while staring at the floor where Aimee Lived.
He waited there, punishing himself by waiting to see if Jayson would spend the night.
As the cigarette burned down and ash dropped onto his hand, the hot ember scorched his skin. Yet, he didn't flinch, seemingly indifferent to the pain.
The seconds ticked away.
No one came out.
Jonathan felt a throbbing in his temples, his blood seething as if it were flowing in reverse through his veins.
The unbearable thought of Bethany, smitten with another man, was still too much to bear.
In a desperate attempt to find solace, Jonathan snuffed out his cigarette against his palm, the sharp pain barely registering in his tumultuous thoughts.
Finally, he stepped out of the car and walked to the entrance of the building.
No sooner had he entered than he thought he heard Bethany's voice floating down from above.
"For him, I'd do anything. All I need is for him to stay with me..."
Each word struck Jonathan like a cold splash, sending shivers down his spine.
Was she talking about Jayson?
Her devotion to Jayson seemed boundless.
At this point, Jonathan still refuse to call it love.
As he froze in place, the intensity of his pain was breathtaking.
Clutching at his chest, Jonathan was overwhelmed by the agony.
Then, suddenly, the sound of footsteps resonated from above.
