Chapter: 401
“No way! Jonathan nearly severed ties with his family because of her, and he spent years looking for her before finally winning her over. Can you match that kind of determination?" Nikolas challenged.
"I can!" If Jonathan couldn't win her heart, Ryan found her even more captivating.
Everyone was aware of Jonathan's unmatched stature in the business world. Still, he couldn't manage Bethany.
Ryan pondered that marrying her and becoming his daughter's stepfather would be a triumph, a way to outshine Jonathan.
Nikolas waved his hand. “Whatever! I fail to see what's so special about Bethany that has you and Jonathan fixated. She's merely attractive, isn't she? You both have plenty of beautiful women around you."
“True, but none of them are Bethany."
"You're beyond help," Nikolas remarked, rolling his eyes. "Best of luck with winning Bethany. If you do, don't count on me being at the wedding, though."
He couldn't stand the thought of Bethany marrying someone else and the inevitable awkwardness with Jonathan afterward.
“Appreciate it," Ryan responded.
“What? Seriously?" Nikolas snorted as he tossed his towel at Ryan.
“Do you ever worry about crossing Jonathan? You're both in the business world and he's invested in your project."
Bates Group had great influence in the business field. It was easy for Jonathan to destroy Ryan's company.
“Jonathan isn't the kind of man who can't afford to lose, is he?"
Ryan remarked, Nikolas replied dryly, “He certainly can't afford to lose Bethany."
After four unanswered calls to Nikolas, Maddie reluctantly accepted losing a critical ally.
Without Nikolas beside Jonathan to provide information, Maddie found herself in a precarious position.
Seated on the hotel room sofa, Maddie pondered how to investigate Jonathan's sudden marriage announcement.
Even his parents were in the dark about the bride's identity. With Nikolas silent, she had to rely solely on herself.
Suddenly, her phone rang.
Maddie walked over, barefoot, and saw Andrew's name on the screen.
Irritated, she frowned but answered.
"Dad."
Andrew's voice came through. “Your mom told me you're back in the country. Where are you? I'd like to see you!"
Maddie replied curtly, “I'm busy with work, not much free time. I'll get in touch when I can."
