Chapter: 407
The chat bubble pulsed, signaling Bethany's reply. Jonathan's eyes were glued to the screen, drinking in every pixel.
Soon, a financial transaction notification popped up.
"This is the remaining balance. Is it correct?"
Money was the last thing on Jonathan's mind. Without even a second glance, he shot back his reply. “Yes.”
"Okay then," Bethany responded, punctuating with a smile emoji of her own.
"Yeah," Jonathan replied.
He had never needed to learn the art of conversation. Usually, people scrambled to keep the dialogue going with him, so he never had to lift a finger.
Now, he found himself waiting, the seconds stretching into an eternity with no word from Bethany.
Impatient, Jonathan frowned and sent another emoji. Suddenly, a glaring red exclamation mark appeared on the screen.
Bethany had unfriended him!
Staring at the exclamation mark and the notice below, Jonathan was in disbelief.
A few years back, after their first night together, he woke up, sent her a message, and was met with that dreaded red exclamation mark.
Fast forward to today, and history had an uncanny way of repeating itself, she had pulled the same move again.
Bethany hadn't changed one bit.
Jonathan hesitated briefly before sending a friend request to Bethany.
She accepted and fired off a message. "Hello again. Is there something else?"
Jonathan's mind raced, grasping for an excuse to keep the conversation alive. "I need the original invoice if that's not too much trouble?"
“Sure. Which part of Westsilver are you in? I'll bring it over to you."
Bethany mused that, despite the driver hitting her car and causing a bit of trouble, he had been genuinely polite and prompt with the payment, leaving her with no reason to hold a grudge. She had unfriended him simply because she hadn't expected any further conversation.
After all, she wasn't fond of having strangers clutter her contacts.
After a moment's thought, Jonathan replied, "I'm not in Westsilver at the moment. Can I contact you when I return?"
He then waited, the seconds ticking by like slow-moving shadows, but Bethany remained silent.
Suspecting he might have been unfriended once more, Jonathan decided to try again with another message. "Please don't remove me from your contacts just yet."
"Miss Holt?" Jonathan sent another text, but Bethany remained silent.
