Chapter: 430
“Understood, Mr. Bates."

Bethany didn't respond to Ryan until she had returned to her hotel.

Before she could complete her message, he called her.

"Why didn't you inform me as soon as you landed? I was concerned and nearly booked a flight to come after you!"

"There were several matters to address, and then I grabbed a bite to eat." Bethany glanced at the time. "The assistants will soon be here in Brokdon. We're meeting shortly, and then the due diligence begins tomorrow."

“I'm not trying to rush you into work!" Ryan paused, noticing something in her tone. “Wait, have you been crying?"

Bethany frowned slightly. "No, I think I'm catching a cold."

She preferred not to delve into personal matters with Ryan or face his inquiries.

"Then you should see a doctor. The work can wait; a brief delay won't affect the project.”

“Boss, remember what you said? This project involves not just our company but also investors, and we cannot afford any setbacks."

Ryan bit his lip, searching for the right response. "I'm just concerned about you."

“I appreciate it, but I'm fine, really. Thank you, boss."

There was a brief silence before Ryan spoke again. “I'll wrap up things on my end and check my schedule. If possible, I'll come to Brokdon too."

Bethany quickly questioned, "Why would you come here?"

"Just for work, nothing else. Don't overthink it."

Bethany couldn't bring herself to believe Ryan.

"You don't need to be so cautious with me. I'm not some villain plotting against you," Ryan reassured her. Bethany's sharp tone cut through him, as he rarely pursued anyone with such earnestness.

“I know you won't," Bethany replied. But he was bothering her.

"Didn't we agree? I'll pursue you, and you just need to give me a chance. Let me show you what I'm capable of!" Frustration tinged Ryan's voice at Bethany's reluctance.

He couldn't understand why Bethany was rejecting him so decisively.

"I just don't want to waste your time."

"You're not. Don't worry."

Ryan ended the call abruptly, fearing Bethany might say something even more discouraging.

Bethany sighed as she looked at her phone screen.
