Chapter: 431
Later that evening, Bethany's two assistants, Liza Miller and Jaden Smith, arrived in Brokdon.
As their leader, Bethany didn't jump into business discussions immediately; instead, she took them to a local restaurant.
"This is amazing! I've been to Brokdon before, but I had no idea the food was this good," Liza exclaimed with delight as she took her first bite.
"Help yourselves," Bethany said warmly, nudging the dish closer to Liza.
Jaden, more reserved and the sole male at the table, was new to working with Bethany and remained quiet.
"Ms. Holt, I've organized the materials you sent. Should we go over them later?" Jaden asked politely.
“Let's eat first. We can review them at the hotel. Traveling can be exhausting. Let's enjoy our meal first," Bethany replied, trying to ease Jaden's nerves with a smile.
Jaden nodded and began to eat.
Both Liza and Jaden were highly educated, fresh out of school, reminding Bethany of her early days at Ensson Corporation.
“Ms. Holt, are you originally from Brokdon?" Liza inquired.
“Yes, I grew up here." Bethany nodded, feeling a twinge of nostalgia for her hometown.
Despite the memories, it still felt like home.
"Then why did you join Goldwald Company? Most people from here go to Odonset. Didn't you apply to Bates Group?" Liza, unaware of the effect her words had, mentioned Bates Group, catching Bethany off guard.
"I didn't have the opportunity."
“With your skills, not joining Bates Group is their loss. When you were in Westsilver, headhunters were after your contact information. They even contacted me!"
Bethany smiled modestly. “That's just their work. It doesn't mean I'm anything special."
"If you weren't exceptional, why would they pursue you? They're not chasing after me!" Liza's blunt comment prompted Jaden to gently tug at her sleeve.
Bethany noticed and waved her hand. “It's okay. Don't be so nervous, Jaden. It's your first trip with me; feeling uneasy is natural. Just relax."
“Exactly! Ms. Holt is the best boss ever," Liza declared with a thumbs up, continuing to enjoy her meat.
“Let's focus on eating and save work talk for later. The company's covering everything, so let's make the most of it," Bethany said, trying to lighten the mood.
After all, Ryan had said it before.
"Really? Yay!" Liza cheered, flashing a victory sign before eagerly digging back into her food.
Bethany glanced over at Jaden. He seemed more at ease now, though there was still a hint of his natural caution.
At work, people like Jaden usually excelled compared to the free spirits like Liza.
