Chapter: 475
“I understand just how much Bethany means to Jonathan. You can't just replace her. That's why you're driven to help set Bethany up.”

People believed that as the lead attorney in Bates Group, having contributed significantly, Maddie would never wrong a mere assistant.

Yet, they were unaware that Bethany was more than an assistant; she was the woman Jonathan loved.

Maddie envied her position as Jonathan's beloved.

"No, I didn't," Maddie denied.

“Say what you will. Now that things have settled, Jonathan and Bethany will never reunite."

Nikolas was troubled, seeing his best friend fail to win the love he yearned for.

In the past, he was unaware of the depth of Jonathan's feelings for Bethany.

After all, Nikolas himself had been charming and attentive when courting, yet he never planned on a long-term commitment.

But Jonathan's love for Bethany was a lifelong bond.

"They can never be together?" Maddie asked.

“No! After Bethany left Jonathan, she got married and even had a child. How could they possibly reunite?" To Nikolas, Bethany's effort to conceive despite earlier challenges showed deep love for her new partner.

Maddie suddenly raised her voice. "Bethany has a child?"

"Yes. Her child is two years old. If you think about the timing, it means she conceived shortly after she married her second husband."

Unlike Nikolas' acceptance, Maddie harbored doubts. “Are you certain Bethany has a child?"

"Why would I lie? Do you still want to harm her?"

"No. If she truly has no intention of competing with me for Jonathan, then I have no reason to concern myself with her. But..." Maddie hesitated, then whispered, “Are you absolutely sure the child isn't Jonathan's?"

Considering the intense relationship between Jonathan and Bethany previously, Maddie couldn't help but doubt it.

“I'm certain Jonathan hasn't seen her in years, much less been intimate with her. Jonathan exhausted every possible avenue to learn about Bethany's whereabouts to no avail." Therefore, if Bethany had a child of two years old, it couldn't be Jonathan's.

Ryan mentioned the child's age. Surely Ryan wouldn't deceive him?

"I understand. I'm relieved," Maddie responded, though her reassurance didn't come as easily as it did for Nikolas.

She needed absolute certainty that the child was unrelated to Jonathan.

“Try not to fixate on Jonathan so much. Think about your own wellbeing," Nikolas said before ending the call.

Maddie pursed her lips and dialed Andrew.
